Scandal Season 7 Episode 3 Review: Day 101

at .  Updated at .

Moving on is a difficult thing to do.

On Scandal Season 7 Episode 3 we finally found out what Fitz was doing when he left the oval, and it resulted in an hour I would very much like to get back.

After what happened at the close of Scandal Season 6, fans thought there were going to be some big moments for Olitz during Scandal Season 7. Instead, we've had the core couple apart, and no sign that they're getting back together.

Who Is Fitz Talking To? - Scandal Season 7 Episode 3

It was fun to see how Fitz adapted to this new chapter in his life.

Getting to see him calling up to activate his debit card and do other things ordinary people do helped solidify the fact that this man has had a privileged lifestyle for far too long.

Moving to Vermont, he wanted to have more control of situations, and that's not a bad thing.

There's only so long people can go on with having everything done for them and for Fitz it was evident he was done with it. That's why I was surprised at the way he told Marcus to get the other bottle.

Hey, Boss - Scandal Season 7 Episode 3

Getting to see him and Marcus fight was not what I was expecting, but it was just another random moment in an episode that probably should not be airing this early in the season.

Despite how he and Marcus feel about each other, they have a strong bond, and that's how they work so well together.

Their work seemed a little on the light side. Like, what did Fitz really accomplish during his first 100 days? He activated his debit card, so I guess that was a big turning point for him.

In the previews, I thought for sure Rowan was there to warn Fitz off of Olivia because she was the most powerful person around. I did not expect for one minute that Rowan would ask for help to "fix" Olivia.

That's not to say that Rowan is not manipulating Fitz because we've witnessed this villain cause a whole lot of trouble throughout his tenure on the show. Fitz knows this, and that's why he'll never really be able to trust him.

Far Apart? - Scandal Season 7 Episode 3

Seeing Rowan with so little power was a delight because this is the man who has always had a say in what's going on because he's so power hungry. Hypothetically speaking, If Fitz was to find a way to reform Olivia, does this mean Rowan would be forever grateful?

I can't imagine Fitz being invited along to the Pope family dinners, but stranger things have happened. I'm sure if they used plastic cutlery, they would be able to get along.

It remains to be seen how things will play out with Olitz now that they have crossed paths once again. The annoying thing about that final scene was that it was the same as the one on Scandal Season 7 Episode 2

You would think that we would at least get to see a minute or two of the pair in the house bickering, or something. Spoonfeeding the audience is one thing, but airing virtually the same scene twice is not good enough.

It was reminiscent of Huck being shot on Scandal Season 6 and the next episode glossing over the events and giving absolutely no resolution. Instead, it just showed it all from another perspective.

A Big Event - Scandal

"Day 101" was not Scandal at its finest. It was slow and littered with too much exposition. Like most final seasons, it already looks like Scandal is going down the disappointing route and we are just three episodes in.

With fifteen episodes left, it's time to crank up the pace and give viewers some good storytelling.

It's a real shame that this show was once appointment TV. Watching how far it has fallen proves it should have ended long before now.

Other tidbits from the episode:

  • The shout out to Olitz was a great nod to the shippers. Scandal is a show that has a rabid fanbase that debates who the characters should end up with in the end.
  • Did anyone else find Marcus' vacation to be more fun than the rest of the episode? I could have watched him have fun in the sun all day long.
  • Marcus calling Fitz an "insane narcissist" really hurt Fitz. It made him realize that he's not been living up to his potential and that's why he started to change things up.
  • Fitz firing the staff at the house was a typical Fitz thing to do.
